The Triage service is here to support you. If you are over 16 weeks pregnant or have been referred by a medical professional and have any of the symptoms listed below, or any other concerns, please contact Maternity Triage at 01952 565948. The service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All calls to Maternity Triage are recorded for training and quality purposes.

  • A change in your baby’s movements

  • Contractions

  • You think your waters may have broken

  • Any vaginal bleeding

  • Abdominal pain

  • Severe Headache or blurred vision

  • Sudden swelling

  • Itching hands or feet

  • High temperature

  • Any other concerns

The Triage service support mothers for the first 28 days after childbirth. If you have any concerns about yours or your baby's welfare, please contact 111 for advice or go to A&E.

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) supports women who are less than 16 weeks pregnant and have concerns about their or their baby's wellbeing. Patients can be referred for pain and bleeding by their GP, midwife, Emergency Department, or Gynaecology Emergency Assessment Area. Patients can also self-refer if they have been seen by EPAS during the current pregnancy, have had a previous ectopic pregnancy, or have had three recurrent miscarriages https://www.sath.nhs.uk/wards-services/az-services/maternity/early-pregnancy-assessment-service-epas/

Looking After Your Baby: Jaundice in Black and Brown Babies

  • All newborn babies can get jaundice

  • Jaundice makes the skin and eyes look yellow

  • It can be harder to see on Black and Brown skin

  • Instead of yellow skin, your baby’s gums, the whites of their eyes, or the palms of their hands may look yellow

If you’re worried:

  • Speak to a midwife, health visitor or doctor

  • Don’t wait – get help quickly

  • You’re not wasting anyone’s time
