BE NEONATAL RELEVANT
Supportive Neonatal Care for You and Your Baby
Our local unit provides special care for babies who need extra support in their first few weeks of life. This could be because they were born a bit early, are unwell, underweight, or had a difficult birth.
Sometimes, we know about a baby’s condition before they are born, but other times it becomes clear after birth. We understand this can be an emotional and overwhelming time with lots of questions and concerns.
That’s why our neonatal and midwifery teams are here for both your baby and your family. They’ll guide you through what to expect, answer your questions, and support you throughout your journey.
We encourage you to speak openly with your care team—they’re here to help. If you'd like to share feedback or learn more about our services, you can do so here.

Shrewsbury and Telford’s Neonatal Unit is part of the West Midlands Neonatal Network, which includes 14 neonatal units and a specialist surgical centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. This network helps hospitals provide high-quality neonatal care in the right place, at the right time, and as close to home as possible.
Neonatal care in the network is organised into three levels:
Level 3 – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): For babies needing complex, intensive care.
Level 2 – Local Neonatal Unit (LNU): For babies who require high-dependency care.
Level 1 – Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU): For babies needing short-term or initial support.
All units in the network work closely together to ensure every baby gets the right care when they need it. This may mean babies are transported between units to receive the care they need. More information about the West Midlands Neonatal Network can be found https://www.teamwmcn.nhs.uk/nn-region-units/

Neonatal feedback survey - Listening to families’ experiences of neonatal care plays a crucial role in helping us enhance and shape our services across the county.
We share your feedback - always kept anonymous - with neonatal staff and healthcare professionals to support learning, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements. Your insights make a real difference in improving care for babies and their families.
We would like to hear from you!
If you don’t have time to complete a full survey, you can quickly send us messages of thanks or feedback. We will make sure these are shared along with the information from the main surveys.
Feedback: Your feedback will be shared with the wider care team to help improve services. If you’d prefer to remain anonymous, please avoid including any personal details that could identify you.
Messages: If you are sharing a positive message and would you be happy for us to share this with or without your name on our social media for our Thank You Thursdays please follow this link https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/CkYeqsMSL8
